About Dee: I have been practicing yoga for over fifteen years. My studies intensified three years ago, when I enrolled in the yoga teacher training program at ‘Sananda Devi’, under the guidance of the amazing yogini, Ananda Shakti. (See the ‘Friends of Bliss’ page for more information about her teacher training program).
I love teaching yoga for so many reasons. There’s the reward of seeing my students leaving energized and refreshed (or relaxed putty, as the case may be!). ~ I love delving into the deeper, meditative aspects of spiritual practice, and I’m so inspired when I find others who want to share that experience with me. Getting to do yoga several times a week is also a total perk of my job!! ~ Every day I am filled with gratitude to be able to offer this gift.
About the Classes: My yoga classes range according to the needs of my students. Some are fast and physical, some are deep and introspective. In all of them, I teach a comprehensive style of Hatha Yoga that focuses on the cultivation of awareness as the primary vehicle for the expansion of consciousness. In the Tantric tradition, there is nothing in our experience that is unimportant, so students are encouraged to cultivate awareness of the breath, body, subtle energy, and mind, as well as whatever is happening in their external environment. Instead of judging or resisting things like sounds or thoughts (or my cats playing on the yoga mat!), students are encouraged to move gently into an experience of surrendering to what has been called the eternal now. ??By cultivating our yoga practice, we bring our body, mind, emotions, and spirit into union; integrating seemingly-disconnected aspects of our human-ness in order to reveal our innate wholeness. We use whatever tools resonate for us: stretching the body, taking ganja as a sacrament, music. Not all tools are for everyone, but those that can expand our awareness are seen as gifts to enhance our practice.
The integration and expanded awareness that results from regular yoga practice can itself be a tool for the transformation of consciousness, leading to personal, social, and (potentially!) global, evolution.
